SCPAR Porto de Imbituba held two meetings to address the environmental situation in the area of the former Indústria Carboquímica Catarinense (ICC). On February 2, the CEO of the Port of Imbituba, Fábio Riera, received representatives from the Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) area of Petrobras, which owns the land and which monitors the maintenance work in the area that has recently restarted.
The previous meeting took place on November 25, with Petrobras and representatives of the Santa Catarina Environmental Institute (IMA) to discuss environmental control actions.
The former ICC space comprising about 100,000 m² is next to the port and has been deactivated since the 1990s. Recently, the area underwent an environmental diagnosis so that Petrobras could develop actions to remediate the liability. This action plan is being analyzed by the IMA and the forecast is that the technical opinion of the environmental agency will be issued by the end of the year. When the proposal is approved, Petrobras will hold a tender to hire a company to carry out the remediation process.
“The Port Authority has been carrying out actions to strengthen ties in environmental discussions about the former ICC area and all the bodies involved have shown themselves to be very engaged in resolving the issue”, highlights the president of the Port.
