The decision of the State’s Environmental Control Commission to issue the Port of Itaguaí’s operating license was announced in the Rio de Janeiro Official Gazette on December 30th, 2021.
With this decision, the Companhia Docas do Rio de Janeiro (CDRJ) and the State Institute for the Environment have now concluded the renewal process of the port’s environmental licensing, which had been under analysis since 2007. The new operating license will be considered valid until 2027 and meets the criteria of the most recent environmental and port legislations.
“The renovation of the operating license for the Port of Itaguaí ends a historical liability that has been lingering for too long, which demonstrates a renewed commitment to the sustainable development of the State of Rio de Janeiro and turning the Port of Itaguaí increasingly more attractive to private investment”, says Gabriela Campagna, the Business Sustainability Superintendent at CDRJ.
“From now on, the teams will focus on developing and promoting monitoring and inspection activities, always seeking to improve environmental management and abide by best global sustainability standards”, she adds.
