The Port Authority of Itajaí had two projects incorporated into the roster of the “New PAC” infrastructure development program of the Federal Government. This program is structured into institutional measures and contains nine investment axes. The Itajaí terminal has been included under the “Efficient and Sustainable Transport” axis within the “Ports” sub-axis.
The initial “Access Canal Concession” project has been categorized as a ‘Project’ within the investment program and falls under the ‘Studies and Projects – Public Works and Concession.’ The other endeavor, titled “Improvements of the Maneuvering Basin,” has been designated as a ‘Work’ and adheres to the same modality.
The coordination of the New PAC rests with the Federal Government, which forges collaborations with the private sector, state entities, municipalities, and social movements. The program’s overarching goal is to expedite economic growth and foster social inclusion, with a comprehensive investment plan of 1.7 trillion reais spanning all states of Brazil. A significant portion, amounting to 1.4 trillion reais, is slated for investment between 2023 and 2026.
Within the scope of the “Efficient and Sustainable Transport” axis, one of the nine, the New PAC endeavors to rekindle investments in the logistics sector, encompassing highways, railways, waterways, ports, and airports. Specifically, the Federal Government intends to channel 349.1 billion reais into this axis, with an allocation of 220.9 billion reais during the initial four-year period.
Under the “Ports” sub-axis, 54.8 billion reais are earmarked for allocation, with 47.4 billion reais targeted for distribution by 2026. This allocation of resources aims to reinvigorate public investments in the sector and facilitate “maintenance and capacity expansion projects for ports, alongside addressing urban encumbrances surrounding the ports to augment their operational efficiency.”
Furthermore, the Federal Government has indicated that fresh public-private partnerships will be implemented, overseen by the Port Authorities, to enhance service provision efficiency for users.
Specifically, within the “Ports” sub-axis and the category of ‘Studies and Projects – Public Works and Concession,’ a sum of 200 million reais will be apportioned for investments across six ports covered by this category, including the Port of Itajaí.
