The Port of Itaqui received a shipment of crude oil for the first time in 40 years and conducted its first ship-to-ship (STS) oil transfer operation.
During the operation at berth 106, Transpetro transferred 18,000 tons of oil from the vessel Marlin vessel to the Nave Atria, putting the port’s potential for liquid bulk operations in evidence. The operation took place on June 29 and 30.
The Marlin, loaded at the Coari-AM terminal with oil extracted from onshore production fields in the Urucu oil basin, in the interior of Amazonas, transferred the cargo to the Nave Atria. The Nave Atria then continued to the São Sebastião terminal in São Paulo, from where the oil will be distributed to Petrobras refineries in the region. This operation is significant as it marks the first oil operation at the Port of Itaqui in 40 years.
This milestone further strengthens the port’s ability to adapt and grow, enhancing its importance in the national logistics scenario. Ricardo Miranda, the director of engineering at Porto do Itaqui, stated, “This STS operation strengthens the potential of Porto do Itaqui for liquid bulk operations. We are prepared to expand our activities and contribute even more to the country’s economic development.”
With its strategic location and efficient infrastructure, the Port of Itaqui is established as a key point on Brazil’s logistics map, ready to meet the growing demands of the oil and gas sector.
