Port of Itaqui scores cargo volume record

June 2022 was the best month, in terms of cargo throughput, in the history of the Port of Itaqui. With 3,403,059 tonnes handled in the period, Itaqui surpassed the previous monthly record, which the port had achieved in April 2021, 3,401,941 tonnes.
Solid bulk operations stood out in the month, corresponding to 2,405,303 tonnes, 6% up from April last year, which had previously been the month with the highest throughput. As for soybean operations alone, the volume increased by 4% compared to the previous month. Compared to June 2021, there was an 18% increase in total cargo throughput and a 40% increase in soybean volume.

This result raises expectations about the volume of cargo this year. “The forecast is to close 2022 with more than 35 million tonnes of cargo handled,”said the president of Empresa Maranhense de Administração Portuária (EMAP), Ted Lago.
