The Port of Itaqui, operated by public company EMAP, achieved a significant milestone in 2023, posting a 12.3% increase in overall customer and partner satisfaction compared to 2022. According to the latest survey, the port’s approval rating surged from 85.1% to 97.4%, positioning it as one of Brazil’s most efficient and highly regarded ports.
Key Success Factors
Two primary factors driving this increase were the port’s geographic location (30.7%) and the depth of its berths (22.6%). These features, along with EMAP’s management, were frequently cited by respondents, underscoring the Port of Itaqui’s critical role as a logistics hub for operations in Brazil’s North and Northeast regions. EMAP’s service responsiveness and courtesy were also highly praised, achieving a 94.4% approval rate. Additionally, ease of contact with port operators showed a marked improvement, receiving a perfect 100% satisfaction rating from port operators and 94.1% from clients.
Sustainability and Safety
The survey also highlighted Itaqui’s strong commitment to environmental sustainability, with 94.6% satisfaction in this area. The same high rating applied to workplace safety, reflecting the port’s focus on maintaining trust in its operational practices.
Infrastructure and Operational Planning
Infrastructure improvements played a significant role in the port’s success. The berths received an 80.7% approval rating, while access and security at the facilities scored 84.3%. Operational planning emerged as another strength, with an 83.3% satisfaction rate, highlighting the port’s efficiency and organization. Notably, the vessel scheduling service saw a substantial increase in approval, jumping to 89.2%, compared to 71.1% the previous year.
Gilberto Lins, President of the Port of Itaqui, attributed the 12.3% rise in overall satisfaction to the team’s dedicated efforts to ensure operational efficiency, safety, and sustainability. “We remain committed to listening to our partners and continuously improving services to maintain Itaqui as a benchmark for excellence in both Brazilian and international port operations. It’s no surprise we are ranked among the country’s top two public ports for port management,” Lins stated.
