The Port of Itaqui has achieved yet another significant milestone. Between January and July of this year, the Maranhão-based public port had a throughput over 20.39 million tonnes of cargo, marking an 8% increase compared to the same period last year and surpassing projections by 3%. Notably, the port’s exceptional performance continued in July, with a total cargo handling of 3.4 million tons – the highest ever for that month – representing a 12% increase compared to 2022.
The growth has been notably driven by dry bulk shipments, surpassing handling expectations by an impressive 10.6% and setting a new monthly record for the port. A detailed cargo analysis throughout the year reveals an 11% increase in solid bulk handling and a 5% increase in liquid bulk.
