The Minister of Ports and Airports of Brazil, Silvio Costa Filho, announced in Alagoas, during the launch event of the Growth Acceleration Program (PAC) on October 30, that the Port of Maceió, currently under the jurisdiction of the Port Company of Rio Grande do Norte (CODERN), will regain administrative and financial autonomy. Present at the event were the Port of Maceió Administrator, Diogo Holanda, and CODERN’s CEO, Estéfano Ubarana.
During his speech, the minister emphasized that this measure is expected to be implemented by the end of this year to foster the development of the state of Alagoas. “I spoke with President Lula and the Chief of Staff of the Presidency, Rui Costa, following the request from the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira, to grant autonomy to the Port of Maceió, which is essential for the state of Alagoas, promoting development through the efficient distribution of production and, consequently, attracting new investments,” said the minister.
According to the APMC Administrator, Diogo Holanda, “With regained autonomy, the Port of Maceió will have greater efficiency in its processes, ensuring more legal security and attracting new companies, generating employment and income for the people of Alagoas,” he concluded.
