Port of Paranaguá sends ice cream to Europe

Ice-cream made in Maringá, Paraná, will refresh the European summer. Export is possible thanks to the use of refrigerated containers which maintain the ideal temperature throughout the trip, which lasts about 15 days. The operation will be carried out via the Port of Paranaguá. There are 3,624 electrical outlets available at TCP, the company that manages the operation.
“Almost 60% of everything exported through the ports of Paranaguá and Antonina comes from the state itself. In addition to soy and sugar, the people of Paraná export a lot of meat, pulp, wood, and industrialized products”, says the CEO of Portos do Paraná, Luiz Fernando Garcia.
In the case of ice cream, the first shipment goes to Portugal and Germany. Most of the 14,000 pots – 7 tons – will be sold in almost 250 Portuguese supermarkets. Part goes to a German food fair.
The Gela Boca factory is also eyeing new markets, and exports to the United States should start this year.
He says that the bet is on what he calls the “health market”. The ice creams were specially developed with fruits from Brazil, such as papaya, pineapple, acerola, cashew, and soursop, and are sold to Brazilians living abroad.
“For us, this export is important. It has all the tax incentives, which at this moment, helps the industry to dilute costs and look for value-added products to improve margins”, he says.
Today, the company’s international sales, which began in 2019, represent almost 10% of revenues. In Paraguay, the industry of Paraná already has 21 stores. In this case, transportation is via its own fleet, with a cold room.
In 2020, in total, 7.3 tons of ice cream from Paraná were exported through the Port of Paranaguá, according to data from the Ministry of Economy (Comex Stat).
