The construction of the new cellulose pulp terminal of the Port of Paranaguá, which began in June 2021, is nearing completion and shall finish in the second half of this year. Thus, the first warehouse operation should take place in December. The total investment shall reach R$ 120 million, disbursed by Klabin, a pulp manufacturer, with an industrial unit in Telêmaco Borba, in Campos Gerais.
The company acquired the 27,530 square meter area in an auction held by Portos do Paraná in August 2019. The concession agreement was signed in early 2020, ending a two-decade period without new leases in the Port of Paranaguá. The area exploration contract is for 25 years and renewable for another 45 years.
The director of Operational Planning, Logistics and Supplies at Klabin, Sandro Ávila, discloses that the construction is ahead of schedule. According to him, the external rail access is practically completed, with a new slope crossing Avenida Portuária. Furthermore, the company is also placing rails in the port’s hinterland to allow free access to wagons. “The completion of the construction work is 20% ahead of the calendar”, he guarantees.
OPPORTUNITIES – At the current stage, the building employs around 180 workers from several areas. Klabin’s Sandro Ávila explains that a set of factors and initiatives guarantee the agility of the work. One of the factors that he highlights is the authorization received from the port administration and the Federal Revenue Service of Brazil for exclusive private access to the work. “This provided conditions for the work to be carried out without interruptions and without causing interruptions in the port. It was a very accelerating factor”, says Ávila.
