The Port of Pecém achieved first place in General Cargo Growth and third place in Container Growth at the Portos + Brasil Awards, held on Wednesday, August 7th. The awards ceremony, organized by the Ministry of Ports and Airports, took place in Brasília and is now in its fifth edition. The event aims to recognize the advancements made by public port complexes and Private Use Terminals (TUPs) across Brazil.

“This award reinforces our commitment to excellence in cargo handling, solid financial results, and efficient management. We continue to grow and innovate, focusing on the development of the port sector and contributing to the progress of Ceará and Brazil,” said Fabio Grandchamp, Vice President of Operations, who accepted the award.

In 2023, the Port of Pecém’s cumulative cargo throughput reached 17.3 million tonnes, with 10.9 million tonnes from inbound shipments and another 6.1 million tonnes from outbound shipments. This marks a 2% increase compared to the volume recorded in 2022.

The Ceará-based port terminal also handled 482,930 TEUs throughout 2023, representing a 16% growth compared to the same period in 2022.

About the Award

The Portos + Brasil Awards are part of a state policy designed to encourage port modernization. The categories are selected to reflect positive public policies that adapt to current trends. Additionally, the award contributes to the creation of a historical database for the country’s port sector. Each year, Brazilian ports are evaluated in nine categories, with the top three in each receiving awards.
