Port of Recife records 27% growth in imports and exports

The Port of Recife witnessed a remarkable 27% growth in imports and exports compared to 2022, handling a cumulative volume of 1,374,340 tons from January 1 to December 20, 2023.
In comparison, between January 1 and December 31, 2022, the total cargo throughput reached 1,160,992 tons. The year-end projection anticipates an additional movement of 35,515 tons.
Key sectors such as wheat, steel coil, and sugar contributed to this upswing. Particularly notable was the surge in the export of demerara and refined sugar to meet the demands of the American quota and respond to new export requirements for the European quota.
Several factors have shaped this current scenario, including conflicts between Russia, Ukraine, and the Middle East, resulting in trade embargoes among some nations. Additionally, major producers like India reduced their exports, redirecting a significant portion of their production to meet domestic market needs.
“These figures demonstrate the strength of Pernambuco, which has become the solution for some countries to meet their needs due to various issues. It is a result that inspires us for 2024 to achieve a further 25% growth,” emphasized Delmiro Gouveia, the President of the Port of Recife.
