Port of Recife Reports 43% Surge in Cargo Throughput in Early 2024

The Port of Recife has seen a remarkable 43% increase in cargo throughput during the first four months of 2024.

According to the latest data, the port handled an additional 195,668 tons of goods compared to the same period last year. The key commodities contributing to this growth include sugar, soda ash, steel coils, fertilizers, malt, wheat, fuel, corn, ethanol, and various miscellaneous materials.

In the first four months of 2023, the port saw 454,048 tonnes of cargo. This figure surged to 649,716 tonnes between January and April 2024.

“The Port of Recife reaffirms its importance for the economy of Pernambuco and Brazil with this growth. We are strategically located, and this success is due to the efforts of everyone involved with the Port of Recife,” stated Delmiro Gouveia, President of the Port of Recife.

“We expect to maintain this upward trajectory through the second half of the year and overall for 2024. We anticipate ending the year with a 30% increase compared to 2023,” added Andrei Lira, Commercial Director of the Port of Recife.

2024: 182,842 tonnes

February:

2023: 87,285 tonnes
2024: 103,362 tonnes

March:

2023: 139,459 tonnes
2024: 187,246 tonnes

April:

2023: 81,760 tonnes
2024: 176,266 tonnes
