The Port of Rio Grande saw another roll-on/roll-off operation on the final weekend of August. The Wallenius Wilhelmsen-operated vessel Tosca carried 668 Chevrolet Onix vehicles, 20 tractors, and six mobile asphalt plants.
The vehicles are destined for two ports in South America. Part of the shipment is headed to the Port of Pisco in Peru, and the rest will be sent to the Port of Cartagena in Colombia, which will also be the destination for the tractors. The mobile asphalt plants will be shipped to Mexico and the United States—five to Veracruz and one to Baltimore.
From January to August, the Port of Rio Grande saw 8,131 roll-on/roll-off units, considering loading and unloading operations. After departing Rio Grande, the Tosca made a stop at the Port of São Francisco do Sul in Santa Catarina before continuing its journey to Cartagena.
