The Minister of Ports and Airports, Márcio França, signed a contract ceding part of the Port of Santos warehouse areas to the City Hall on Tuesday, May 2. With aims to revitalize the area and attract tourist interest, a park called “Parque Valongo” will be created there.
The planned investment for the construction of the park is R$15 million. These funds will be supplied by a multinational port company, which will soon formalize its contributions. The construction work should be completed in July 2024.
According to Minister Márcio França, the goal is for the Port of Santos to continue operating efficiently and breaking records, and be attractive. “The port will remain public, serving Brazilian society, now with a beautiful and touristic space for people to enjoy,” he said.
The project results from a Conduct Adjustment Agreement (TAC) signed by the Public Ministry, Port Authority, and Santos City Hall. Under this proposal, warehouse 4 will become a space for cultural activities under the management of the City Hall. Warehouse 7 will be under the responsibility of the Port Authority (SPA), which will use it for educational and technological activities in partnership with universities. The space between warehouses 5 and 6, which no longer exist, will be used as the project’s open area.
