Port of Santos climbs one position in global container ports ranking

The Port of Santos has risen one position in the global ranking of container ports, moving from 41st place in 2021 to 40th in 2022. This result solidifies Santos as the leading port in the Southern Hemisphere and the second-largest in Latin America, only surpassed by the Port of Colón on the Atlantic side of the Panama Canal.
The annual ranking is compiled by the British specialized magazine Lloyd’s List, using physical port movement data. Compared to 2021, Santos switched places with the Port of Al Jedah in Saudi Arabia, which now occupies the 41st position. According to the magazine, Santos’s advantage was due to a 3.2% growth in the year, higher than that of the Saudi port (1.6%). Santos handled a total of 4.98 million TEUs in 2022, while the Middle Eastern port managed 4.96 million. As a comparison, the Saudi result in 2021 was 4.88 million compared to 4.83 million in the Santos complex.
