Week 202441

Over a ton of cocaine was seized by the Federal Revenue Service at the Port of Santos on Monday morning (21). The narcotics were concealed within a shipment of scrap metal bound for Europe, marking the largest drug bust of the year so far.

The Federal Revenue Service reported that 1.2 tonnes (1,200 kg) of cocaine were intercepted during a routine inspection. Enhanced risk management protocols helped flag and detain the shipment, which was packed in five containers.

The drug was hidden inside a 24-ton scrap metal shipment, packed in metal boxes to complicate the detection efforts of the surveillance teams. During the inspection, two sniffer dogs were deployed, and scanner images of the containers, which were headed for the Port of Málaga in Spain, were analyzed.

Once the cocaine was confirmed, the Federal Police were called in to handle judicial procedures under the jurisdiction of the Union.
