The Port of Santos is joining a research initiative focused on decarbonization. The project is going to be developed at the Itaipu Technological Center (PTI in Portuguese). The cooperation term was signed by the port authority on June 17, in partnership with PortosRio (Rio de Janeiro) and Codeba (Bahia).
The project’s goal is to modernize operations in Brazilian public ports, promoting efficiency and security across all activities through research and entrepreneurship, aiming to achieve more efficiency in creating new infrastructure and decarbonization projects.
The Minister of Ports and Airports Silvio Costa Filho remarked that “investing in technology and innovation, like green hydrogen and decarbonization, is key to sustainability.”
Benefits
The president of the Santos Port Authority Anderson Pomini pointed out the benefits to the Port of Santos’ logistics. “The deal can help us control all truck fleets coming from the crops and cooperatives to the Port, promoting good logistics that encompass vessel’s entry and exit and the transport of products to the country’s hinterland.”
The manager of Port of Santos further emphasized the significance of the collaboration. “Along with other ports, the Port of Santos, which accounts for 30% of all trade in Brazil, is a crucial component of the country’s efficient logistics system. We will benefit from this strategic cooperation by gaining access to technologies and intelligence.”
