The Mutual Aid Plan of the Port of Santos (PAM), coordinated by the Santos Port Authority (APS), organized the “First on the Scene” course on the 26th. This course aims to train employees from port terminals and agencies involved in emergency response on how to handle accidents involving chemicals, both on land and at sea.
The term “first on the scene” refers to the priority response provided by those present at the time of the incident, whether at the port, in the city, or on the highways. This training is a collaboration between PAM and the Environmental Company of the State of São Paulo (Cetesb).
The training took place at the APS training center and involved approximately 140 participants, including employees from port terminals and public safety officials (Civil Defense, Municipal Guards, and Health services, among others). Santos’s Vice-Mayor, Renata Costa Bravo, represented the city.
During the opening, Eduardo Lustoza, Director of Business Development and Regulation at APS, emphasized the importance of training to prevent accidents: “We must be responsible because we are safeguarding the metropolitan region,” said Lustoza. He reiterated APS’s unwavering commitment to preventing accidents in the world’s busiest cargo port in the southern hemisphere.
The “First on the Scene” course lasted throughout the day and involved the Fire Department and the State of São Paulo Highway Police, with support from the Santos Port Excellence Center (Cenep Foundation).
