The Port of Santos, the largest port in Latin America, received, on Thursday, February 1st, the largest vessel ever to dock in its berths.
With a length of 366 meters, the MSC Natasha will break the record previously held by the CMA CGM Vela, which docked in Santos in October 2022. The latter had a length of 347 meters and a capacity for 11,000 TEUs.
The arrival of the largest ship ever to dock in Santos coincides with the port’s 132nd anniversary. Constructed in 2018, the vessel can transport up to 14,000 standard containers in a single voyage.
According to MSC, “it is a source of pride to be part of this important milestone” and acknowledges the “joint effort of all those who worked to make this moment possible.”
In a statement, MSC also mentions that the docking of the vessel is the result of studies that began in 2016, in collaboration with the Port Authority of Santos, along with various support simulations from the Maritime Authority.
After stopping in Santos, the MSC Natasha XIII will continue its journey to Asia.
