Military and Volunteer Firefighters, Civil Defense, and the Brazilian Army participated in a nitric acid spill drill exercise in the operational area of the Port of São Francisco do Sul.
The operation carried out on July 7th involved around 150 people, including the emergency teams from the port (led by the company Ambipar Response Dracares) and Federal and Military Police members.
The procedure was carried out as though it were a real-life scenario: a dozen employees were harmed when the chemical leaked unexpectedly during transportation.
Firefighters were called immediately, as were the other emergency teams, who arrived at the port within minutes.
The spill drill, which lasted around 1h30min, sought to measure the response time for reporting the accident, the arrival of teams, assistance to victims, and the containment of the chemical, among other factors.
The drill is part of the Humanitarian Aid Exercise coordinated by the Brazilian Army through its 14th Motorized Infantry Brigade between the 4th and 8th of July.
The purpose is to prepare the agencies that are part of the civil defense and social action system, which respond to situations of natural disasters in the state of Santa Catarina.
