The Port of São Francisco do Sul has achieved a new milestone: during the initial seven months of 2023, it successfully maintained a throughput of 9 million tonnes, marking a significant 25% surge compared to last year (7.2 million).
Exports were crucial, with up to 5.4 million tonnes, reflecting a remarkable 60% increase from January to July 2022, when 3.4 million tonnes were shipped to foreign destinations.
Conversely, imports reached 3.6 million tonnes, slightly below the 3.9 million recorded in 2022.
The boost in exports this year can be largely attributed to grains, accounting for a cargo volume of 4.9 million tonnes (with soy constituting 3.8 million and corn 1.1 million).

34% surge in July
It is worth noting that July saw a 34% growth in cargo volume, reaching 1.4 million tonnes, compared to the same month in 2022 (1 million).
In 2023, exports amounted to 926 thousand tonnes, making up 66% of the total for July. The main product shipped overseas was soy, accounting for 730,000 tonnes, followed by corn (168,000 tonnes) and soy oil (25,000 liters).
In terms of imports, the total was 488 thousand tonnes (constituting 34% of the overall movement), largely driven by shipments of steel materials such as steel coils and bars (300 thousand tonnes) as well as fertilizers (187 thousand tonnes).
