Port of Suape inks cooperation agreement with Panama Maritime Authority

The Port Industrial Complex of Suape and the Maritime Authority of Panama (AMP) signed a technical cooperation agreement earlier this week to share innovative and successful strategies for port management and develop socio-environmental measures to promote economic growth with sustainability.

The meeting was attended by the director of Planning and Management of the Pernambuco-based port, Francisco Martins; the director of Ports, Flor Pitty; and the Strategic Projects coordinator, Tomás Douglas, both from the Panama Maritime Authority.

On an official visit to the Panamanian capital, Francisco Martins revealed that, at the meeting, the basic premises of the Memorandum of Understanding were defined along with the Panama institution, the single port authority responsible for 25 ports located outside the Panama Canal Zone, which also controls activities in five private terminals belonging to the world-famous megastructure that connects the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, with an extension of 82 kilometers.

The technical cooperation agreement between the Port of Suape and the Panama Canal aims to create connections with international partners and make new maritime routes feasible. “This directly reflects on an increase in cargo handling and business opportunities to the port,” emphasizes Francisco Martins.

The new container terminal that will be installed in the coming months at the Port of Suape by APM Terminals, a company of the Maersk group, was one of the topics discussed by representatives during the meeting. “This new cooperation avenue can bring about new business opportunities and create new routes,” concludes the director. At the end of the meeting, representatives of the Panama canal showed a willingness to visit the Suape Port Industrial Complex in Brazil.
