With the objective of transforming the Suape Industrial Port Complex into a research, development, and innovation space focused on the future of fuels, CTG Brasil launched on Monday, July 25, the TechHub Green Hydrogen.
The project, developed in partnership with SENAI Pernambuco and the State Government of Pernambuco, is to implement activities in Suape focused on producing, transporting, storing, and managing green hydrogen (H2V). To this end, the initiative received an initial investment of R$ 45 million.
During its initial phase, innovative solutions capable of generating new business opportunities related to the “fuel of the future” were selected in a public call promoted by the National Department of SENAI and by CTG Brasil.
This project, which shall be implemented in Suape, is part of CTG Brasil’s investment strategy in R&D+ innovation in line with the Research and Development Program promoted by Aneel (National Electric Energy Agency). The TechHub will play a vital role in the company’s innovation strategy.
“One of the objectives of this initiative is to promote an ecosystem capable of accommodating new technologies, improving the electrolysis process, increasing the plant’s total efficiency, reducing costs, training and promoting new business models,” explained Carlos Nascimento, Research and Development at CTG Brasil.
According to the regional director of SENAI Pernambuco, Camila Barreto, the role of SENAI-PE in the partnership will be aiding in implementing projects that may increase the economic attractiveness of Pernambuco. “We see the Suape Port Industrial Complex as a way to test the feasibility of these projects in a real-world scenario, bringing together other companies and creating a true innovation hub,” she mentioned.
A digital trading platform for Green Hydrogen will be developed to connect the pilot plant investment programs implemented at TechHub.
“It is key to trace and verify the origin of the energy used in the production of hydrogen, ensuring that the plant’s power source comes 100% from renewable sources, opening more doors for the commercialization of what is deemed the fuel of the future,” said José Renato Domingues, corporate vice president of CTG Brasil.
According to the Secretary of Economic Development of Pernambuco, Geraldo Julio, the Hub will show the capacity of the Suape Complex to embrace projects in various segments.
“We are keeping an eye on the future since green hydrogen is a global innovation. It has great investment potential, as well as being a propeller of a sustainable and green development-based economy. It is visionary measures like this that will make us protagonists on a global scale and a go-to place in terms of the strategy employed by large global economic players,” he pointed out.
Future opportunities
In addition to the Hub’s announcement, CTG Brasil, SENAI Pernambuco, and the State Secretariat for Economic Development (SDEC-PE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding that provides for the examination of the development and implementation of several projects in the hydrogen chain of the Port Industrial Complex from Suape.
With the agreement, it will be possible to establish collaborative relationships between the institutions. In addition, the partnership will contribute to the decarbonization process, increasing the share of renewable sources in port activities.
