Codesa, the Espírito Santos state port authority, recorded the highest ever revenue in 2019 for the Port of Vitoria at R$ 158.4 million, an 6.42% increase over 2018.
Both an increase in cargo handling and a rise in prices led to the record number. Volumes moved were the highest since 2011. The best month of the year was December, with sales exceeding R$ 20 million.
In 2019 there was a 4.26% increase in cargo handling, totalling almost 7 million tons, compared to the previous year. It was the best result since 2011.
The highlights were seen in dry bulk shipping, which saw 2.944 million tons handled, a 16.4% rise over 2018 numbers. The good performance was driven mainly by fertilizer, malt and pig iron cargoes.
The largest volumes were seen in manure and fertilizer cargoes, which totaled 1 million tons, a 50.9% increase over 2018 figures. Next, 345,000 tons of malt were moved (46.5% increase) and 820,000 tons of pig iron (29% growth compared to 2018).
Container throughput also grew with 2.780 million tons of cargo handled, a 4.5% increase compared to 2018. Some of the main cargoes handled were coffee beans, as well as slabs and blocks of marble and granite.
The data was consolidated by Codesa’s Coordination of Planning and Development (Coplad).
