Port of Vitória sets 10-year cargo handling record

Cargo handling from January to August at the Port of Vitória reached the highest level in a decade. The growth reached 26.20% compared to the same period last year: 5,153,287 tons against 4,083,534 tons in 2020, a difference of 1.066 million tons. Last month alone, the increase was 8.79% (664,446 t/2021; 610,778 t/2020).
“The August movement confirms the excellent year of 2021 for the Port of Vitória. Expectations are high for the last four months with the flow of fertilizers for the next harvest”, explained Leonardo Bianchi, head of the Development Planning Coordination (COPLAD).

Loads
Among cargoes, solid bulk and containerized cargo have the largest share in the first eight months, with 41.48% and 38.41% of the total, respectively. Other increases were noted in liquid bulk (12.52%) and general cargo (7.58%). Year-to-date compared to the same period in 2020, coal (+176.6%) and malt (+42.5%) reached new highs.
Another positive data was the movement of vehicles with 59,600 t (+73.41%): 29,165 units against 17,172 last year. The growth in all types of cargo handling has also increased the number of berthings: in the first eight months of the year, a total of 479 ships operating in the port were registered, an increase of 9.11% compared to 2020, which received 439 vessels in the same period.
The main cargo destinations are the United States (long-haul shipping) and Port of Santos – SP (cabotage).
