
Porto Alegre sees 8.17% cargo throughput growth in early 2023

Porto Alegre cargo throughput increased by 8.17% in the first two months of 2023. The port had 104,552 tonnes in the first two months of this year compared to 96,652 in 2022.
The list of most handled products is led by inputs used in producing fertilizers, with 83,371 tonnes. Barley ranks second, with 15,659 tonnes, followed by beef tallow, 5,303 tonnes, and general loose cargo, 219 tonnes. So far, 15 ships have passed through the port this year.
The month of February came to a close with 64,714 tonnes. Such an expressive quantity for that month had only been registered three times in the last ten years when the port had an annual throughput of over one million tons.
According to Matheus Evangelho, the operations manager for the port of Porto Alegre, investments in infrastructure are being made to gain accuracy in the port’s daily routines. He also commented the port promotes continuous maintenance inspections on its power generators and weighing scales.
