Porto do Pecém set a new record for container traffic in October, handling 66,253 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), a 16.4% increase compared to its previous record of 56,906 TEUs, achieved in December last year.

The port also marked a significant milestone in October with the MSC Mariagrazia, a massive 366-meter vessel. During its 48-hour stay, the operation carried 4,016 containers, setting a new benchmark for the port in a single operation.

Hugo Figueirêdo, president of the Pecém Port Complex, attributed this achievement to the collaborative efforts of the port team and APM Terminals, the operational service provider responsible for container handling at the port.

“We’ve seen consistent growth in container handling over the years, breaking our records. This reflects our commercial team’s efforts to attract more cargo and vessels, huge ships like the MSC Mariagrazia. But most importantly, it highlights our operational capacity—from efficiently moving containers between ships and the yard to managing the distribution of cargo throughout the port until it reaches its final destination,” Figueirêdo said.

For vessels like the MSC Mariagrazia, Porto do Pecém acts as a hub, handling transshipment cargo at the terminal until it is sent to its final destination. Another essential operation is expected in November, with the return of the MSC Juliette, which visited the port over the weekend to complete its operation.
