Porto Itapoá recorded a throughput of over 500,000 TEUs in the first five months of 2024. In May alone, the terminal broke its monthly dry import record at some 37,562 TEUs handled.
Felipe Fiovaranti Kaufmann, the director of Business Development and Customer Experience at Porto Itapoá, commented on the port’s overall activity in May. “We had 102,270 TEUs, marking the third-largest monthly throughput on record,” Kaufmann said. He also noted that in April, the port set its all-time throughput record with 107,475 TEUs handled in a single month.
The highest monthly shipment volume for LCL (Less than Container Load) cargo was also recorded in May. Customers who might not have enough cargo to fill a container can now benefit from this growing mode. According to Kaufmann, Porto Itapoá is the only primary zone terminal that provides this service, which lowers costs and expedites importer turnaround times.
Another significant achievement in May was the record for gate movements, with 47,073 truck entries, surpassing the previous record of 45,827 transactions set in April 2024.
For the first time, Porto Itapoá handled more than a million TEUs in a single year in 2023. With a 20% rise in throughput over 2022, it was also the fastest-growing private container terminal in Brazil.
