Portocel, a port and terminal operator, received its first cargo at the Suzano terminal (T32) in Santos last Sunday (4). Sixty wagons arrived via the railroad that crosses the terminal.
The company operates a highly efficient port in Aracruz, Espírito Santo, capable of shipping 7.5 million tons per year of various products—including pulp, rocks, steel products, project cargo, and vehicles—and began operating the T32 in Santos in July this year, marking its first unit outside Espírito Santo.
Expansion
Portocel, with over 300 direct employees at its Aracruz unit, recently hired 50 workers in Santos to support its operations in the city. The expansion to Santos signifies a strategic growth opportunity for the company.
T32 has undergone renovations, increasing its storage capacity by approximately 7,000 square meters and adding four more lines to its rail network. With two unloading gantry cranes, the terminal can discharge 44 wagons simultaneously.
Company Background
Operating for 46 years in Espírito Santo, Portocel boasts a multimodal terminal with a comprehensive logistics infrastructure. The facilities and equipment are integrated with various transport modes, supporting import and export, long-haul and cabotage, and handling pulp, general cargo, project cargo, and bulk according to market demands.
Strategic Connections
The Aracruz terminal is connected by road and rail to Brazil’s main production and consumption centers. Portocel is controlled by Suzano and Cenibra, two major pulp and paper sector players, reinforcing its strong industry connections and capabilities.
