Portonave acquires land near Port of Navegantes; understand

The port of Navegantes, on the northern coast of Santa Catarina, has had good moments this year, which are likely to remain in the near future. Recently, land on the outskirts of the port of Navegantes was acquired by Portonave, the company that manages the terminal.
The company claims this is a recurring situation. As opportunities to purchase land around the company appear, Portonave assesses them and, depending on the findings, makes purchases.
There are speculations that these purchases take place aiming for future expansions. However, the company chose not to give further details on the motivations behind these acquisitions.
The company also claims that the values of recently acquired land are within the average price range, owing to the general appreciation of assets and real estate in the city.
Portonave’s advisory did not provide further details on how many land plots were acquired nor the amounts invested in the purchase.
The port of Navegantes has been collecting positive numbers in recent months. For example, it recorded a new throughput record in September 2022, after 15 years of operation.
Access to the Portonave Gate set a record for trucks entering and leaving, with 2,600 accesses in a single day.
From January to September 2022, Portonave had a container throughput of 487 thousand containers. In the same period of 2021, container throughput was 479 thousand containers.
The month of September closed with a movement of 110.7 thousand TEUs (a unit of measurement equivalent to a 20-foot container).
