Portonave, a private port terminal in Navegantes on Santa Catarina’s northern coast, set a new daily record for truck traffic at some 3,308 truck movements on Wednesday, the 16th. This figure includes 1,552 inbound and 1,756 outbound container trucks, surpassing the previous record of 3,139 trucks set in December last year. In addition to this milestone, Portonave has consistently delivered strong results from January to September, maintaining its position as Brazil’s most efficient terminal in ship productivity, according to the National Waterway Transport Agency (ANTAQ).

Last month, the terminal’s gate, which handles truck entry and exit, saw its second-highest September on record, with an average of 2,000 trucks passing through daily, resulting in 51,404 total truck movements. Portonave recorded 489,416 truck entries and exits from January to September, with an average driver turnaround time of 30 minutes. Between October 1st and 16th alone, 30,778 truck movements were registered.

During the same nine-month period, 370 vessels called at the terminal, handling a total of 948,650 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units). In September alone, the terminal processed 103,440 TEUs. Portonave continues to lead the nation in ship productivity, recording an average of 119 Moves Per Hour (MPH) from January to August. This key performance metric, measured during ongoing quay construction—a R$1 billion private investment to accommodate larger vessels up to 400 meters in length—tracks the performance of the terminal’s Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes, which transfer containers between the yard and vessels.

Cold storage growth

Portonave’s cold storage facility, Iceport, handled 190,000 tonnes of products between January and September, an 11% increase compared to the same period last year. Of the total volume, 65% was poultry and pork, 26% vegetables, and 9% beef. The third quarter, comprising July, August, and September, was the strongest of the year, with 80,000 tonnes processed.
