With an impressive average of 118 Moves per Hour (MPH), Portonave achieved a 42% increase in vessel operation productivity compared to 2023. Despite the complexities of ongoing quay expansion works, the terminal was recognized as the most efficient in Brazil in the latest monitoring report by the National Agency for Waterway Transportation (ANTAQ), covering the period from January to November 2024.
Operational Highlights and Market Leadership
According to consultancy firm Datamar, Portonave has solidified its position as a leading player in the sector, accounting for 12% of Brazil’s long-haul entire container operations. In 2024, the terminal handled 1,261,130 TEUs, maintaining its ranking as the third-largest terminal in the country.
In exports, Portonave led the national market for pork, moving 24,000 TEUs—representing 35% of Brazil’s total exports in this segment, with China as the primary destination. On the import side, tires stood out, with 30,000 TEUs handled, equivalent to 33% of the national market, with China as the primary origin.
Additional notable results include:
Machinery exports: Over 100% growth, totaling 28,000 TEUs, primarily destined for Mexico.
Ceramics imports: An eightfold increase, reaching 9,000 TEUs, also sourced mainly from China.
Record Truck Gate Access in 2024
Truck entries and exits through Portonave’s Gate reached a historic record in 2024, with 640,301 accesses—12,306 more than the previous year. This volume reflects the terminal’s logistical efficiency and the growing demand for its operations.
Growth in the Refrigerated Products Sector
Portonave’s refrigerated warehouse, Iceport, also posted impressive results. It handled 253,678 tons of products, including poultry, pork, vegetables, and beef, marking a 10.5% increase compared to 2023. Portonave remains the only Brazilian port terminal with a refrigerated warehouse for temperature-controlled cargo.
Through continuous investments in infrastructure and efficiency, Portonave reinforces its prominent position in Brazil’s port sector, contributing significantly to its foreign trade growth.
