Portonave, in the Port Complex of Itajaí and Navegantes, announced it beat its previous containerized cargo throughput record in the first half of 2023 with 700,323 thousand TEUs handled between January and June. This is a significant upgrade from the previous record, 634,998 thousand TEUs handled in the second half of last year. Compared to the first half of 2022, Portonave saw a 22% growth.
The terminal’s performance results from long-standing partnerships with carriers, who currently maintain 14 shipping lines calling at Poronave, and importers and exporters who choose Navegantes as their operation hub.
Portonave has been the port that handles containers the most in the south of Brazil for six years. In Santa Catarina, the port holds a 64% market share, according to Jan-May data from Datamar.
Since the onset of operations, 11.7 million TEUs have been handled, while 8.7 thousand ship berths have been recorded as far as June. Some of the most exported products in the first half of the year were wood and frozen meat. In imports, plastics, textiles, and machinery ranked the highest. These goods came and went to China and the USA, mostly.
100 thousand TEU mark
Every month from January to June 2023 reached the 100 thousand TEU mark, which is unprecedented in the history of the terminal.
• January: 104.4 thousand TEUs
• February: 101.1 thousand TEUs
• March: 124 thousand TEUs
• April: 117.2 thousand TEUs
• May: 126,800 TEUs (largest single-month throughput)
• June: 126.5 thousand TEUs
Access to the Gate
The number of truck accesses through the entry and exit gate also reached records: 329,000, up 29% from the same period in 2022. Around 2,100 containers acceded the port through the Gate, compared to 1,600 in 2022. In June, 2,944 containers were mobilized in a single day, an all-time record.
Iceport figures
Iceport, a fully automated cold storage facility integrated into the terminal, is a reference for players in the reefer cargo market due to specialized certifications and high-quality services. Shipments to Mexico were one of the port’s highlights, exceeding 5 thousand tonnes in April, May, and June.
Social responsability
The port concentrated efforts on culture, education, sports, health, and environmental actions, mobilizing 27,000 people and BRL 3 million throughout the first half of 2023.
