Avenida Conde Matarazzo and Rua Engenheiro Luiz Augusto Leão da Fonseca will receive over 4.6 kilometers of new pavement

The state-owned company Portos do Paraná is investing over R$ 18 million in revitalizing key access roads to the Port of Antonina. Avenida Conde Matarazzo and Rua Engenheiro Luiz Augusto Leão da Fonseca will undergo over 4.6 kilometers of pavement renewal, with work expected to begin between May and June this year.

“These projects will improve the city and enhance safety for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians, as they are among the main access routes to the city center and the Port of Antonina,” said Luiz Fernando Garcia, CEO of Portos do Paraná.

The project includes removing old asphalt and replacing it with concrete pavement, which offers greater durability than asphalt and significantly reduces maintenance costs. Additionally, the material enhances road safety.

“Concrete pavement is the most suitable for roads with heavy vehicle traffic, as it is designed to withstand the weight and volume of trucks. This type of pavement is also more resistant, providing a longer lifespan and requiring less maintenance,” explained Victor Kengo, Director of Engineering and Maintenance at Portos do Paraná.

The plan also includes the construction of bike lanes, accessibility ramps, new bus shelters, and sidewalk renovations. Additionally, drainage systems, signage, and other complementary services will be installed to prevent road flooding and improve truck traffic flow.

Antonina City Hall developed the project and oversaw soil testing on Avenida Conde Matarazzo with the construction company. The soil was analyzed to ensure high-quality pavement execution and assist in selecting the best materials and techniques for the work.

“This has been a long-standing dream for Antonina’s residents and business owners. The new pavement will improve mobility, enhance safety, and encourage economic and tourism development,” said Mayor Rozane Osaki.

Temporary traffic detours and changes will be implemented to minimize disruptions during construction. The project is expected to be completed in the first half of 2026.

Port of Antonina

In 2024, the Port of Antonina handled 1.9 million tons of bagged and bulk sugar, fertilizers, and other goods. This volume represents a 47% increase compared to 2023 when 1.3 million tons were handled.

The Port of Antonina is one of the terminals managed by Portos do Paraná. According to the federal government, Portos do Paraná ranks Brazil’s second-largest port operation and has been recognized five times as the best-managed port in the country.
