On the second day of Intermodal South America, Portos RS signed a Protocol of Intentions to cooperate with the Port of Aveiro. The signing ceremony took place on Wednesday afternoon, March 1, at the port authority’s stand at the trade show, which counted with the presence of Rio Grande’s mayor Fábio Branco.
The Port of Aveiro is located on the west coast of the Iberian Peninsula. The recently signed document acknowledges the historical and cultural ties between Brazil and Portugal and aims to deepen the exchange of knowledge and professional expertise among ports. Cooperations actions that are yet to be determined will ensure the mutual transfer of technical expertise.
The Protocol of Intentions was signed by the president of Portos RS, Cristiano Klinger, and the president of the Administration of the Port of Aveiro, Eduardo Elísio Peralta Feio. The Portuguese port was also present at the trade show as part of the stand of the Association of Ports of Portugal (APP).
“This [protocol] is very important for the Port of Aveiro given the pre-existing relationship with Rio Grande,” stated Peralta. “Anything that may add to the relationship between ports seeking modernization and innovation, as is the case with Rio Grande, fundamental.”
Also according to Peralta, “all aspects of energy transition shall be discussed. We will learn from Rio Grande do Sul, and they will learn from Aveiro. This is our path to develop our port skills.”
Klinger described the signing act as extremely important. “The document is connected to the Port-City program and the Blue Economy ideals, a theme that we have been closely watching recently,” he said.
The president of Portos RS also recalled the fact that the cities of Rio Grande and Águeda, in Portugal, are often called sisters. The cooperation ties were established in 1993, allowing for closer relations between the two countries. This close relationship left evidence in the architecture, history, and culture of Rio Grande do Sul.
Mayor Fábio Branco also showed appreciation for the signing of the protocol. “It is something very important for the community, as it enables an economic, technical, and cultural exchange. We expect great results,” he declared.
