Portos RS’s Environmental Division received confirmation of its entry into the United Nations Global Compact – Brazil Network on Wednesday (28). This initiative, the world’s largest corporate sustainability endeavor, marks a significant step forward in environmental management, crucial for achieving new socio-environmental cultures based on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The UN Global Compact in Brazil was established in 2003 and is now the second-largest local network, with over 1,900 participants. The 50+ projects conducted in the country primarily cover Water and Sanitation, Food and Agriculture, Energy and Climate, Human Rights and Labor, Anti-Corruption, Engagement, and Communication. The Brazil Network reports to the Global Compact headquarters in New York and chairs the Council of Local Networks in Latin America.
Portos RS’s relationship with the Global Compact began in 2022 when, still in its early months as a public company, it introduced the SDGs to its employees through dynamics during the June Green event. In 2023, these objectives were consolidated within the Port Authority, and in 2024, the goals considered common by all sectors will be worked on.
According to Henrique Ilha, Director of the Environmental Directorate at Portos RS, “Joining the Global Compact reinforces Portos RS’s commitment to sustainability and best practices, seeking efficiency with the utmost respect for the environment. Moreover, it allows us to structure the advancements of our agenda and strategic objectives in line with the best practices worldwide.”
