The Port of Rio Grande has started the week with more loading and unloading cargo operations in its public wharf. As of Monday (Jan. 16), the vessels Atlas S, Bass Strait, Puffin Arrow, and Osprey Arrow were berthed, in addition to the Trevo Leste and Juan Rasmuss barges. Other vessels should arrive in the municipality throughout the week.
Moored at berth one is the Panamanian-flagged Atlas S. The vessel came from the Port of Buenos Aires, in Argentina and is being loaded with wheat in Rio Grande. In berth two is the ship Bass Strait, sailing under the Chinese flag, which is unloading barley from the Port of Bahia Blanca, also in Argentina.
In berths four and six, respectively, are the ships Puffin Arrow and Osprey Arrow. The vessels, flying the Panamanian and Norwegian flags, are both loading pulp shipments. In berth seven, the barges Trevo Leste and Juan Rasmuss are unloading pulp coming from Guaíba.
In 2022, the movement of wheat cargo was the one that went through the most significant increase in the Port of Rio Grande, going from 1,396,711 tons in 2021 to 3,213,689 tons last year (+130.09). Pulp shipments experienced the second-largest increase, going from 3,501,239 tons to 3,800,653 tons, an increase of 8.55%.
In Pelotas, the Germano Becker barge is moored at the public pier to load wood logs that will be transported to Guaíba for pulp processing. In Porto Alegre, the ship Bass Strait is expected to unload brewing barley after leaving the port of Rio Grande.
