PortosRio concludes 1st dredging funded with own resources

In order to guarantee an adequate and uniform operational draft for passenger ships that come to the Port of Rio de Janeiro, the PortosRio Port Authority carried out a maintenance dredging along the entire length of the harbor at the International Cruise Terminal at Pier Mauá, located between warehouses 1 and 6. This was the 1st dredging performed by the company with its own resources, costing BRL 8.5 million.

The Port of Rio de Janeiro already had the infrastructure to receive transatlantic ships before the dredging, but with the new operational drafts leveled across the entire length of the cruise terminal, it will be possible to berth more ships at a time, avoiding any restrictions on these vessels’ calls in the city.

Works – For this dredging project, the National Institute of Waterway Research (INPH) developed the Unitary Price Composition (CPU), while Pier Mauá – the cruise terminal’s tenant company – carried out a bathymetric survey of the area and several hydrographic surveys. Such studies served as a basis for PortosRio to bid and contract the dredging services carried out between October and December.

The dredged volume – 116,560m³, was disposed of in a location previously determined and approved by the State Institute for the Environment (INEA). All the environmental care actions were taken under the provisions of the environmental license.
