The three port units in Rio Grande do Sul – Rio Grande, Pelotas, and Porto Alegre – reached a total of 36,871,086 tonnes in loading and unloading operations from January to October, numbers that demonstrate the consolidation of the state’s ports in the post-flood period.
Port of Rio Grande
With growth in wood chips, polyethylene, and pulp movements, the Port of Rio Grande closed from January to October with 35,295,995 tonnes in loading and unloading operations. This figure includes both the public quay productivity and the terminals located in the Superporto area.
Operations involving wood chips recorded a 12.21% increase, reaching 860,998 tons. Polyethylene saw a 9.06% rise, totaling 552,285 tonnes. The movement of pulp, a raw material for paper, grew by 7.29%, totaling 3,100,520 tonnes.
Container movements also increased in the cumulative ten-month period compared to the same period last year.
Imports through the Port of Rio Grande primarily came from China (1,445,897 tonnes), Argentina (1,267,116 tonnes), Russia (749,908 tonnes), Morocco (647,810 tonnes), and Canada (574,031 tonnes). Exports were directed to China (9,054,117 tonnes), Iran (914,194 tonnes), Vietnam (880,674 tonnes), the United States (768,473 tonnes), and the Philippines (727,876 tonnes).
Port of Pelotas
At Pelotas, the movement of wood logs reached 839,361 tons. Following this, clinker, a raw material for cement, stood out with 132,549 tonnes, and soybean in grain amounted to 10,735 tonnes. Together, these loading operations totaled 982,645 tonnes.
Port of Porto Alegre
At Porto Alegre, out of the total of 592,446 tonnes moved, fertilizers accounted for the largest share, reaching 271,473 tonnes. The second was wheat, with 200,840 tonnes. The third most handled cargo was barley, with 57,742 tonnes, while beef tallow took fourth place, with 25,877 tonnes.
