Ports Minister confirms Ecoporto terminal contract won’t be renewed

On the 21st, Silvio Costa Filho, Brazil’s Minister of Ports and Airports, informed the press that a decision has already been made not to renew the contract for Ecoporto, operated by Ecorodovias, at the Port of Santos. “We have been working on the Ecoporto issue, and there is already a decision not to renew the contract,” he stated.
He added, “It was recently renewed, and we will wait for the process to conclude before starting discussions on the bidding process for the new STS 10 [container terminal in Santos]. In this process, we recognize the importance of expanding the capacity of the Port of Santos,” the minister told journalists in São Paulo after the auction of five port terminals.
Ecoporto’s contract had already expired but had been extended by the federal government and the Santos Port Authority. Meanwhile, the company had been seeking a contract renewal—a request denied during the previous administration.
One possibility raised by the port authority was relocating Ecoporto to occupy part of the STS 10 site. However, the proposal has faced criticism from various sources, including the Federal Audit Court.
