At the event marking his 100 days as head of the government of Sao Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas said he saw favorable signs from the Lula administration toward the privatization of the Port of Santos after the president did not remove the port, a federal asset, from the National Privatization Program.
“An elected governor of São Paulo should always be heard. And respected. But our understanding is that, as does 99% of countries around the world, and validated at the voting polls, is that port authorities must be public. However, unlike the past government [Jair Bolsonaro], we have no problem debating with those who disagree with us,” he said.
In his interview, Tarcísio said privatization depends on the federal government, which has opened space for dialogue with the state administration.
França acknowledges the possibility of granting terminals at the port of Santos to private parties but not the port authority, which is considered strategic for the public interest.
