Between January and August 2024, the ports of Paraná recorded a significant 35% increase in general cargo movement, totaling 12,034,983 tonnes, compared to 8,893,948 tons during the same period in 2023. The general cargo category includes loose or unitized goods of various dimensions and shapes that do not follow the bulk standard.
“This performance reflects the effectiveness of the improvements implemented by the Ports of Paraná and the leasing companies, both in infrastructure and logistics efficiency, highlighting the capacity of Paraná’s ports to adapt to the growing demands of international trade,” stated Luiz Fernando Garcia, CEO of Ports of Paraná.
Container exports and imports primarily drive a substantial increase. In 2024, the ports of Paraná handled 6,161,274 tonnes in container exports and 4,751,847 tonnes in imports. Sacked sugar also saw robust export movement, with 589,951 tonnes handled.
In terms of imports, vehicles ranked second in volume, with a total of 42,240 tonnes processed. “Paraná has a privileged strategic location and highly skilled port workers, which reflects in efficient and secure operations,” emphasized Gabriel Vieira, Operations Director at Ports of Paraná.
Modernization and Infrastructure
The impressive 35% growth in general cargo movement is a testament to our strategic investments in modernization, capacity expansion, and operational efficiency at Paraná’s ports. These investments reinforce the competitiveness of our public company in the national and international logistics landscape. The integration of more agile technological and logistical solutions has also contributed to increased cargo handling capacity, providing greater efficiency in loading and unloading.
In recent years, the ports of Paraná have emerged as hubs of excellence in cargo transportation. The speed and safety in handling these products are competitive advantages that position Paraná as a significant player in the Brazilian port scene.
“The synergy between logistical advancements and the qualification of port workers results in high-performance operations with international standards of safety and efficiency,” said Vieira.
