Studies by the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA) show that Brazilian exports of poultry genetic material (including fertile eggs and reproductive material) totaled US$ 26.079 million in the first two months of 2022, a figure 21.3% higher than the one obtained in the same period last year, US$ 21.499 million.
Of the total exported in the two-month period, US$ 16.353 million resulted from 1-day-old chick sales, a result 13% higher than that recorded in 2021, with US$ 14.468 million. The remaining refers to fertile egg sales, resulting in a revenue of US$ 9.726 million, a number 38.3% higher than in 2021, with US$ 7.032 million.
In February alone, sales led to revenue of US$ 13.302 million, a number 65.5% higher than that recorded in 2021, US$ 8,038. This total includes US$ 8.162 million for 1-day-old chicks, a figure that is 76.5% higher than the figure obtained in the same period last year, which was US$ 4.625. Fertile eggs, on the other hand, amounted to US$ 5.141 million, a number 50.6% higher than that carried out in February 2021, with US$ 3,414.
Colombia was the place that most imported 1-day-old chicks, corresponding to 24% of all revenue generated in the two-month-period. Bolivia comes in second with 18% and Peru in third with 17%. Among fertile egg-importing countries, Senegal stood out the most as it corresponded to 38% of the revenue in dollars pocketed in the period. Mexico came in second, with 33%, and Paraguay in third, 14%.
“The international demand for poultry genetics from Brazil continues to rise, especially in the Americas and Africa. At a time in which many producing countries are fighting Avian Influenza, Brazil gained competitiveness for never having registered a single case of the disease in its territory,” comments Ricardo Santin, president of ABPA.
