The Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPF) in São Paulo has initiated a civil inquiry into allegations of train horn abuse at the Port of Santos.
The investigation was launched in response to an anonymous complaint received by the agency, stating that the train horns were being excessively used, particularly during nighttime, within a residential area.
The case, currently being investigated in secrecy, is being led by attorney Felipe Antonio Abreu Mascarelli and is still in its preliminary stages. The MPF-SP has already notified Santos City Hall and is currently reviewing the response.
In response to the inquiry, the Port Authority of Santos has stated that they have not yet been officially notified about the investigation. However, they emphasized that the use of sound signals, both by rail and water transport, strictly adheres to safety standards.
Santos City Hall has asserted that they have not received any notification regarding the inquiry and explained that there is no municipal legislation on this matter. They further emphasized that the inspection of safety standards for rail transport falls under the jurisdiction of the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT), as stated in their official statement.
