The president of the Management Consortium of the Argentine port of Quequén, Arturo Rojas, gave a technical presentation to explain the start of work to deepen the port’s draft, days after the arrival of the dredger IBN Battuta Jan de Nul, from the port of Guayaquil in Ecuador, where the equipment dredged the canal opening. This dredger is one of the most powerful in the world, capable of cutting through hard material at the bed of the port’s channel to increase its draft to 50 feet.
The equipment will work in conjunction with the suction dredger Afonso de Albuquerque, the most environmentally compatible dredger in the world, and the DN28 dredger.
Financing and investments
Dredging will be financed from the consortium’s own resources and private sector contributions to a fund established for this purpose and guaranteed by Macro and BICE banks. With this work, Quequén Port will achieve higher standards of competitiveness, being operational all year round, which, according to its authorities, will allow it to attract more investments.
