Exports from Mato Grosso do Sul’s manufacturing industry grew by 25% from January to November 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, climbing from $4.74 billion to $5.93 billion in value and from 7.66 million tonnes to 8.54 million tonnes in volume. Key exports included pulp, beef, soybean meal, and sugar.

In November 2024, total export value surged by 21.34% despite a 3.2% decline in industrial output compared to November 2023. The manufacturing sector, a cornerstone of the state’s economy, posted a year-to-date growth of 7.4%, while extractive industries faced a significant downturn.

Some of the highlights were that pulp, paper, and paper production grew by 5.8% over the year, while the petroleum products and biofuels sector saw gains of 4.8% year-to-date and 5.4% over the last 12 months.

The figures come from the Industrial Outlook Report for January 2025, released by Semadesc (the Secretariat for Environment, Development, Science, Technology, and Innovation), based on data from IBGE’s Monthly Industrial Survey (PIM-PF).

The strong performance aligns with the prominence of export leaders such as pulp, fresh, chilled, or frozen beef, soybean meal, sugar and molasses, and vegetable fats and oils.

In November 2024 alone, the state’s industrial sectors collectively increased export value by 21.34%, rising from $5.09 billion to $6.17 billion. However, industrial production declined by 3.2% compared to November 2023.

Manufacturing, which drives much of Mato Grosso do Sul’s economic activity, recorded a 7.4% cumulative growth for the year.

Conversely, extractive industries experienced a sharp decline, with a 23% contraction year-to-date and a 22.6% drop over the past 12 months.
