Qair will produce green hydrogen in PE

With operations in 16 countries, French multinational Qair Group has initiated technical and economic feasibility studies to implement a green hydrogen (H2V) production unit in the Port of Suape, in Pernambuco. Investments in the plant could reach US$ 3.8 billion, or around R$ 20 billion.
The French group will solely finance and operate the unit and plans to build a green hydrogen plant in Ceará that will be the same size as the one it intends to build in Suape. The projects are not mutually exclusive, and the idea is to build both of them, announced Gustavo Rodrigues da Silva, Director of Operations at Qair Brasil, to Valor. “There is immense geopolitical pressure for this market; we believe it will open up, and the first ones there will benefit,” said the executive.
Since 2019, Qair has been building a green hydrogen unit at Port de Nouvelle, in the Occitania region. Operations are expected to start in 2023 and reach a capacity of 5 million tons of hydrogen per year. This will save 870,000 tons of carbon dioxide per year from being released into the atmosphere, estimates the president of Qair in Brazil, Jorge Borrell.
With the ventures in the northeast region of Brazil, Qair aims to export to serve the European and American markets, which increasingly demand clean energy sources.
