R$6 Billion Investment in Bahia: R$4.6 Billion Allocated for Porto Sul Development in Ilhéus

On Monday morning (23), Brazil’s Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, announced over R$ 6 billion in investments for infrastructure projects at the ports of Ilhéus and Salvador, the Barreiras airport, and the construction and expansion of two waterways in Bahia.

Additionally, a loan of R$ 4.6 billion, tied to the Merchant Marine Fund (FMM), was approved for Bamin Mineração S.A. to build a terminal at Porto Sul in Ilhéus.

During the ceremony, attended by Chief of Staff Minister Rui Costa and Bahia’s Governor Jerônimo Rodrigues, the completed dredging works at Aratu Port were delivered, an R$ 50 million investment by CS Portos.

Several key projects were also announced:

  • Dredging work at Ilhéus Port to maintain a 10-meter depth to accommodate larger vessels.
  • Resurfacing of the rear area at Salvador Port’s quay, with an investment of R$ 16.7 million. Completion is expected by December this year.
  • Tender for Barreiras airport construction, which includes the runway’s overhaul, expansion of the aircraft apron, and the construction of a new passenger terminal. This R$ 50 million project is slated for completion within eight months.
  • FMM funding of R$ 4.59 billion for the construction of the Bamin Private Use Terminal at Porto Sul, Ilhéus.
  • FMM funding of R$ 942 million for the third phase of the Tecon Salvador terminal expansion. This includes the construction of a new hinterland area reinforced with a sheet pile wall at its quay interface.
