Rainfall blocks roads to ports in Southern Brazil

Three federal highways dawned with interdictions on Monday (13). Due to excessive rain recorded over the weekend, parts of roads BR-277 and BR-376 in Paraná were blockaded. The same happens with part of the BR-101 in Santa Catarina.
The situation interferes with the flow of agricultural produce in the region. The BR-277, for example, connects Foz do Iguaçu, on the triple border between Brazil-Paraguay-Argentina, to the Port of Paranaguá. The road was blocked near the city of Morretes due to the sinking of the pavement.
Furthermore, on Sunday (12), a bi-train truck caught fire on the highway, also near Morretes. According to the Paraná Federal Highway Police (PRF-PR), a road lane was released to traffic hours after the accident.
As for the BR-376, which begins in the extreme northwest of Paraná and leads to access roads to Santa Catarina ports such as Itajaí and São Francisco do Sul, the PRF reports that the blockade was still active by Monday morning. The corporation cites high “rainfall levels” over the mountain as justification. The roadblock occurred in both directions around the municipalities of Guaratuba and Garuva.
BR-101 under blockade
The federal highway that crosses Brazil from north to south, BR-101, is also blocked in Santa Catarina — namely, around Garuva. According to the road manager Arteris Litoral Sul, the total blockade around the city is due to the “accumulation of rain in the region.” The road passes through the vicinity of all ports in Santa Catarina.
